What is Metoprolol?

Metoprolol is a beta blocker that slows heart rate and lowers blood pressure, easing the heart's workload and controlling arrhythmias.

How it works

It blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart, reducing heart rate and contractility. This decreases oxygen demand and stabilizes rhythm.

• Hypertension and angina control
• Rate control for atrial fibrillation
• Long-term therapy after heart attack to reduce risk

• Labs: Blood sugar trends (glucose and hba1c) may be checked because beta blockers can mask low-sugar symptoms.
