Lisinopril

What is Lisinopril?

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor used to relax blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and reduce strain on the heart and kidneys.

How it works

It blocks the angiotensin-converting enzyme, reducing angiotensin II levels. This widens arteries, lowers blood pressure, and decreases the workload on the heart. Reduced aldosterone also lowers sodium and water retention.

• Hypertension management
• Heart failure symptom and hospitalization reduction
• Kidney protection in diabetes with protein in the urine

Monitoring & Safety

• Labs: Check potassium, creatinine, and egfr within 1-2 weeks of dose changes.
• Watch for dry cough, dizziness, or swelling of lips/face (rare angioedema).

Dosing (简要)

• Typical start 5-10 mg once daily; adjust every 1-2 weeks based on blood pressure and kidney labs.
• Take at the same time daily; can be with or without food.

Drug interactions

• Other blood pressure pills can add to dizziness.
• Potassium-sparing diuretics or supplements raise potassium levels; monitor closely.
• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) may reduce kidney blood flow when combined.

• Stand up slowly to avoid lightheadedness during the first few days.
• Stay hydrated, especially during illness causing vomiting or diarrhea.
• Avoid salt substitutes high in potassium unless your clinician approves.

When to contact your doctor

• New facial swelling, trouble breathing, or severe dizziness.
• Little or no urine output, or rapid weight gain from fluid.
• Persistent dry cough that interferes with sleep.
