Empagliflozin

What is Empagliflozin?

Empagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that helps the kidneys remove excess glucose in urine, lowering blood sugar and providing heart and kidney benefits.

How it works

It blocks the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 in the kidney, reducing glucose reabsorption. This causes glucose and calorie loss in urine, mild diuresis, and improved cardiovascular and renal outcomes.

• Glucose lowering in type 2 diabetes
• Reducing hospitalization for heart failure
• Slowing progression of chronic kidney disease in appropriate patients
