What is Dapagliflozin?

Dapagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that lowers blood sugar and offers heart and kidney protection for many people with type 2 diabetes or heart failure.

How it works

It inhibits SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubule, causing glucose to be excreted in urine along with mild natriuresis and diuresis.

Common uses

• Glycemic control in type 2 diabetes
• Reducing hospitalizations for heart failure, even without diabetes
• Slowing decline in chronic kidney disease when eligible

• Labs: Monitor glucose, hba1c, and renal labs egfr/creatinine to ensure safe use.
