Make sure it's safe for you to help. Look for dangers: traffic, fire, electrical hazards, violent behavior, gas leaks. Don't become a victim yourself.

Call 911 Immediately

Call or have someone else call. Provide your location, what happened, number of victims, and your phone number. Don't hang up first.

Check the Person

Tap and shout to check responsiveness. Look for chest rise to check breathing. If unresponsive and not breathing normally, start CPR if trained.

Control Bleeding

Severe bleeding is life-threatening. Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth or bandage. Maintain pressure until help arrives.

Treat for Shock

Keep the person warm with a blanket. Lie them down if possible. Elevate feet unless head/neck/abdominal injury. Reassure them.

Don't Move Injured People
